Printmaking with Soft Kut

Students carve on rubber eraser material called “soft kut”. The main idea/foreground is left uncut except for some added pattern and textures, while the background area is cut away. This creates a “raised” surface in the uncut area and lower surface where you cut. The raised surface of the stamp catches the ink, leaving the uncut with little to no ink.  This term is called “relief”.
With careful registration (aligning stamp for color), color is added before inking the stamp. A brayer charged with ink is rolled and applied to the material.  Soft thin paper is laid on the inked surface.  The paper is then rubbed with a wooden spoon or a barren.  Ultimately, this will transfer the image to the paper.  Multiple prints can be achieved when this process is repeated
