Dahlov Ipcar Inspired Paintings
Dahlov Ipcar was born in 1917 in Vermont. Raised in New York, she now lives in Georgetown, Maine in a small rural farm setting. Dahlov Ipcar is a colorful painter; her subjects/themes include animals in the wild or animals on a farm. She wrote and illustrated many children’s book. Her distinctive style in which she paints in a way where her background is sectioned off like mirrors reflecting objects similar to a kaleidoscope.
8th grade exploratory art classes selected one of her paintings as inspiration. Students used the “Wet on Wet” method. This is where you paint on top of wet paint taking care not to thoroughly mix rather, “streak” the colors in. Students start with a wet color base, and then while the paint is still wet, add another color, streaking both colors. Colors may blend but still able to see and identify the 2 colors used.
Painting combinations:
grass=yellow and some blue.
water=yellow, dark blue and white.
tree trunk=orange, brown and some black for texture.
sky=white (mostly), and light blue.
skin color =white (mostly) and very little orange. This is only for "white" color skin. Darker skin, use some brown with the above colors. |
